Place of death : San Pedro, California

Charles Bukowski was born in Germany in 1920 and came with his family to the United States when he was three years old. He grew up in poverty in Los Angeles, drifted extensively, and for much of his life made his home in. Bukowski had been a writer since childhood, published his first story at age twenty four, and began publishing poetry when he was thirty-five.

ALBUQUERQUE POETRY MAGAZINE - JOURNAL - THE POET'S PLAZA

Harwood and the International Poetry Institute have joined forces to create a statewide poetry magazine, The Poet’s Plaza. Borrowing the name from the physical space at Harwood, the Poet’s Plaza magazine will offer a place for poetry, critical essays, event listings and discussion about the New Mexico poetry community, and will be available free of charge at select locations around the state. Ongoing submissions of poetry, book reviews, essays on prosody or topics pertinent to the poetry community, poetry event listings, calls for entry, or other relevant subject matter will be accepted for possible inclusion in this quarterly publication. You may include a sase for notification only. Submissions will not be returned. Funding for the NM Poet’s Plaza magazine generously provided by the Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry and LEF Foundation.

OLD SCHOOL BOOKS
Old School Books was established in 2005 as the publishing entity of the Harwood Art Center. Providing opportunities for local and regional poets to be read, our books are perfect bound, attractive and offer a community minded approach to publishing. Our first title, The Harwood Anthology, is still available through Harwood, or Bookworks bookstore in the Dietz Plaza shopping center. In April 2008, we expect to publish our second book, "Looking Back to Place,"a collection of oral histories and poetry on the theme of place.
